Fillings: Restoring Your Decayed Teeth
If you have a decayed tooth, a filling may be necessary to restore its health and function. Before the filling procedure, we’ll administer local anaesthesia to numb the area around the affected tooth. This ensures that you do not feel any discomfort during the procedure.
We’ll then remove the decayed portion of the tooth using a drill or laser. The cavity will be cleaned to remove any remaining bacteria and debris. After, we’ll fill the cavity with the chosen material, such as composite resin, amalgam, or porcelain, and shape it to fit the natural contours of the tooth. Multiple layers of filling material may be applied, and each layer will be hardened using a special light.
Once the filling is complete, we’ll check your bite to ensure that the filling is comfortable and does not interfere with normal chewing or speaking. The entire procedure usually takes between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and location of the cavity.
Aftercare for Fillings
After the procedure, you may experience some sensitivity or discomfort in the affected tooth, which should subside within a few days. It is advised to avoid eating hard, crunchy, or sticky foods for a few hours after the procedure, and to maintain good oral hygiene habits to prevent future decay.
